About Us
Opened in 1998 as the first private museum in Oman, Bait Al Zubair
pays tribute to Oman's heritage. The Museum displays a collection
of Omani artifacts that span several centuries, and is considered
to be the finest that is privately owned. Its ethnographic artifacts reflect highly specialized inherited skills that define Oman’s society, both past and present.
Exhibits of the traditional attires present throughout Omani governorates show the celebration of the diversity of Omani culture.
In 2005, Bait Al Zubair evolved into a cultural foundation, dedicated
to serving the local and broader communities. Over the years, Bait Al Zubair
grew to become a cultural hub, spearheading innovative cultural
projects, events, and initiatives.
Oman lies at the crossroads of three continents and four seas.
Its strategic location at the tip of the Arabian Gulf led to its fantastic seafaring
history, which includes the legendary Sindbad, the Sailor. It was one of the
first countries to harness the monsoon winds to reach far destinations,
interlinking its history, religion, and culture with many Indian Ocean cultures
along the way. For over 5,000 years the people of Oman have built settlements
and harnessed natural resources. Mud-brick communities, forts and
castles that encapsulate history and human endeavor within
their very walls are strewn across the country, symbolizing the true
essence of Arabia.
Today, Oman extends over 320,000 square kilometers, and is ruled by one
of the oldest dynasties in the region. Discover the treasures of Oman’s cultural
heritage at Bait Al Zubair and witness the friendliness of a forward-looking
nation that is proud of its traditions and legendary hospitality.
Founder's Letter
Bait al Zubair is renowned in the region as the premier heritage, arts and culture hub in Oman offering a wide range of cultural experiences to people, both local, resident expatriate and tourists, of all ages. We are committed to preserving, protecting and presenting Oman’s rich cultural heritage through the carefully assembled heritage collection, as well as supporting the next generation of Omani creatives.
Bait al Zubair provides support for both established and up and coming young creatives to develop, learn and explore as well as to exhibit, perform or install their works in order to broaden the knowledge and awareness of Omani heritage and contemporary creativity.
The family established the Bait Al Zubair Foundation in 2005 to manage Bait Al Zubair and projects relating to culture and heritage, the arts, the community, history and publishing. It is the cultural and social arm of the family-owned business — The Zubair Corporation.
“In order to safeguard our heritage through changing times, it is our duty to preserve all aspects of culture and tradition … Our aim is not only to promote our valuable Omani heritage but to maintain, preserve and study it so that it may benefit succeeding generations and inspire them to sustain the Islamic and Arab identity and traditions.”
