Syria, In the Shadows of Memory

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, Bait al Zubair will hosted an iconic collection of the Syrian photographer Fadi Masri Zada’s photographs at an exhibition The exhibition brought together an eclectic mix of selected pictures which will take us in a voyage of exploration and perusal of the land and people of Syria, between the years 1990 and 2003. Fadi will take us from the columns and temples of Palmyra, to Busra, Aleppo and Old Damascus. Through the distinctive style of his shots, and deep allusions to aesthetics and humanity, we will be transported to the heart of the scene, the anatomy of the place, the vastness of history and warmth of the present. We shall smell the fragrance of Jasmines in Damascus and hear echoes of temple chants, church bells, and minarets’ calls to prayer. We will hear the invitation of beauty coming from the dawn of civilization, before we wake up to the realization that it is only shadows in our memory.
